Washington Academy students conquer Catbells fell and Ghyll Scramble

Students take part in action packed outdoor weekend

Lucky students from Washington Academy, got to visit Derwent Hill this month for an action packed weekend residential trip. Derwent Hill provides quality residential outdoor education for children in the Lake District.  

 

34 Y10 and 11 student Sports Leaders from the school went along to help them build skills such as teamwork, leadership, and communication.  They participated in a range of activities including canoeing, high ropes, and mountain walking, even taking part in a game of capture the flag.

 

The students also did some gorge walking to reach the Ghyll Scramble, which entailed traversing lots of rock scrambles and waterfalls, a jump, plunge pools and a few optional roped climbs, finishing with a big waterfall climb at the end.  A group also conquered the Catbells fell, which is 451 metres high.
