Market Stalls

Our staff work together in pairs, with each pair being members of a larger group of people who form a ‘Community of Enquiry’.

This group focuses upon helping each other to improve their practice through regular ‘meet and share’ meetings. At these we all focus upon discussion on what works well…the assumption, that is borne out by what we see, being that 4 heads are better than one!

This is a very similar model to that used in business, industry, and the healthcare professions. We insist that all of our staff ‘read up’ on what universities and top-performing schools in the country are doing as this ensures that we make informed choices and decisions and this leads to rapid improvement in practice.

On a termly basis, all the staff get together and put their work up for critical review from each other. We do this through what we call the ‘Market Stall’ which is set up a similar fashion to a business exhibition. At these events staff and in the near future students discuss what has been tried, found out and what the next steps could be. Everyone finds this a very useful exercise as it generates new ideas, understanding, and confidence in what we do in the classroom.

“Sharing and talking about what students have learned in my lesson is something I place great value on, doing the same with what I’ve learned by working with my colleagues has given me tremendous insight into my practice.”

“Fantastic experience, putting time aside to reflect on how I teach was incredibly useful.”
